![]() One of the flaws in this homeowner's kitchen was the lack of a landing place for her microwave. In addition, the height placement was totally incorrect for her height. Naturally, each time she used the appliance, it was a struggle to put and remove food from it. |
Handy Guidelines For Appliance Placement |
|
| Dreaming about new appliances? Before you simply replace the old ones, in addition to the new features of the appliances, maybe you should also consider some convenience and safety aspects. Some good food for thought is found in the National Kitchen & Bath Association Kitchen Planning Guidelines with Access Standards. The link for the guidelines is found here in their site NKBA. Heard of a work triangle, but didn’t know exactly what it meant? Check out the diagram that is shown in the NKBA guidelines. Where is the ideal place for dishwasher placement? That’s discussed too, as well as cooking surface clearances & safety. Ever considered why your microwave placement just seems awkward and inconvenient—the guidelines say that the ideal location is 3” below the principle user’s shoulder but no more than 54” above the floor. In addition to height guidelines, your microwave and in fact, all appliances in your kitchen should have a “landing area.” This is a place located nearby literally for landing items to and from the respective appliance. A slight revision in your kitchen layout may make a huge difference in the way your kitchen functions for you. << Back to resources |
