| Design Expert, Susan Serra, described 3 kitchen design trends in her blog “The Kitchen Designer.”
The Sustainable Kitchen: Making decisions that make a difference has become easier with so many new green products that are now available. Susan says to design a healthy kitchen that is easy to clean and cleans the air via helpful appliances. Be sure to select energy star appliances. Comfort/Open Floor Plans: Susan states that even before the financial crisis—a comfortable kitchen was the main emerging trend. Now, more than ever, the kitchen is gathering place and source of comfort for families. More than utilitarian, kitchen design includes comfortable seating and gathering in more areas than just the kitchen table. The kitchen now includes fireplaces, TVs, and transitions to other spaces. Kitchen Design Elements: With today’s economic woes, clearly remodeling a kitchen is about long term quality and value. Cleaner lines, neutral colors, white with contrasting dark, quiet-patterned engineered stone are some of the trends. “Appliances are ever more built-in with more sizes available for design flexibility and are strong on energy efficiency,” says Susan.
